ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of International Relations, established in 1956, is one of the oldest and most esteemed institutions in the country for the study of Political Science and International Relations. Over the years, the department has actively contributed to the evolution of political thought while maintaining a strong commitment to diverse and holistic academic learning. Recognized for its distinguished faculty and comprehensive curriculum, the department continuously strives for excellence in education and research.

Our dedication and perseverance have earned us the reputation of being one of the most respected departments for International Relations in the country. We focus on equipping students with in-depth knowledge of global politics, national and international affairs, and contemporary geopolitical issues, particularly in political, strategic, and economic domains.

The department houses the Centre for Refugee Studies, a unique research hub in Eastern India, and boasts a well-stocked library with approximately 4,000 books covering relevant topics. Additionally, we subscribe to nearly 56 prestigious national and international journals. A standout feature of the department is the Tarak Nath Das Research Centre, which maintains an exclusive newspaper clipping archive—the only one of its kind in Eastern India—containing around 25,000 files on significant national and international issues.
